Almost all the cosmetics that you use today like lipsticks, mascara, rouge, eye liner, aftershave, lip gloss, deodorants, lip liners, and more have been tested time and again on animals. As there are a variety of chemicals used to prepare these cosmetics, no one knows for sure what the side effects of a particular concoction can be. Hence, to ensure the safety of the people using these cosmetics and more; they are first tested on innocent animals like rabbits, mice, guinea pigs, and rats just to name a few. Even the things that we use daily like shampoos and soaps are tested on animals before they hit the market. What the cosmetic companies know for a fact is that the animals that are being tested on are not going to sue them if there are any side-effects of their product on them but people like us using these products can very easily sue these huge cosmetic companies in the wake of a side-effect and thus, make them suffer huge losses.

Cosmetic Testing on Animals...

There has been an ongoing debate on the use of innocent animals like these since a long time. Many ethical groups and animal activists have strongly opposed the use of animals for testing. The other organizations insist on arguing for the the three Rs, which are as follows;

  • Try and replace the animals that are being used with non-animal alternatives wherever it seems possible.

  • Try and reduce the number of animals that are being used for the various animal-testing procedures.

  • Try and refine the various animal testing procedures so that the animals do not have to undergo as much pain, discomfort, or then suffering.
No matter how much people protest, these tests are still carried out on animals one way or the other.

Animal Testing Products...

Come to think of it, in a way the testing on animals is good for us because we definitely do not want to wake up one morning with some kind of a rash or an allergy on our face or then our body. Imagine the plight of a bride-to-be on the morning of her wedding day. It would definitely be a disastrous day for her. To avoid such frightening incidents, the animal testing companies try and take the least risk possible in the cosmetics provided to them. As most of the cosmetics are tested on animals, we surely do not have the option of avoiding these cosmetics. The testing of the cosmetics as a whole on animals has reduced significantly but that does not mean the ingredients used in these products have not been tested at an earlier stage of manufacturing the product.
